alternativeElton John Aids Foundation Sir Elton John founded the Elton John AIDS Foundation (EJAF) in 1992 to finance HIV/Aids prevention and assistance programmes all over the world. So far over $80 million have been donated and beneficiaries include medical establishments for the treatment of the physical and mental symptoms, AIDS tests and advice, explanation and work on the streets, distribution of food, sheltered housing, coordination of social services, recruitment and support for volunteers. Chopard provides active support to the foundation with the Elton John collection, a series of chronographs which reflects the personal style of this pop music legend. Part of the proceeds of each watch goes to the Foundation. José Carreras International Leukaemia Foundation. In July 1988, one year after the world-famous tenor José Carreras won his battle against leukaemia, he started a foundation to support research and promising scientific projects. The foundation is also intended to help improving treatment opportunities and increasing the number of hospital units which are equipped to perform bone marrow transplants. José Carreras and the Scheufele family are united by a long friendship. In 1991, they set up the Swiss branch of the Foundation, followed in 1995 by its German counterpart, of which Karl Scheufele is respectively Chairman and Vice-Chairman. 1996 was the start of the José Carreras watch collection. The first limited editions bore engraving of various opera houses around the world on the case back. This partnership continues and a portion of the sales proceeds are still earmarked for the Leukaemia Foundation. Prince Charles Foundation During a polo tournament held in 1998 in partnership with Chopard, Caroline Gruosi-Scheufele had the honour of making the acquaintance of his Royal Highness Prince Charles and encouraging his interest in Chopard watches. The Prince told her about his own foundation which is dedicated to conservation of the environment, art and culture. The idea then arose of creating a watch which would be sold to support the foundation’s activities. A big tonneau-shaped watch with curved lines and traditional elegance was created in compliance with the Prince’s own precise instructions. Both the dial and the case bear the coat of arms of HRH The Prince of Wales. A large percentage of the sale proceeds go to the Prince’s Foundation
