L.U.CEUM

alternativeLocated in Fleurier, in the premises of Chopard Manufacture, the L.U.CEUM invites visitors to follow the traces of time. An inventive museography, inspired by the measure of time, highlights masterpieces of watchmaking from different periods and regions of Europe. Retracing five centuries of history, the collection is divided in themes, in which Chopard L.U.C watches are integrated. Opened in 2006 for the tenth anniversary of Chopard Manufacture, the L.U.CEUM was Karl-Friedrich Scheufele’s wish for years. Fleurier proved to be the most appropriate location for the museum because it was here that Chopard Manufacture was established in 1996. The name "L.U.CEUM" is a neologism, inspired by "L.U.C" (Louis-Ulysse Chopard) and the Latin word "lyceum", a space where lectures are given, or a place of learning. In the L.U.CEUM, today’s watchmakers study antique masterpieces to create movements and watches of the highest quality. The name and the concept of the L.U.CEUM, as well as its maxim "Traces of Time" establish a link between the past and the present. The watches and clocks presented in the L.U.CEUM are arranged in thematic areas: “great achievements that transcend the standards”, “the measure of precision”, “traveling with time”, etc. Antique historical watches are juxtaposed with thematically related models from Chopard’s contemporary L.U.C collection. Alongside timepieces crafted between 1500 A.C. and the present day, the L.U.CEUM also provides space for modern and contemporary artworks devoted to the theme of time. BACK TO THE L.U.C COLLECTION
