The Mille Miglia contestFrom May 2nd to May 15th 2011 answer five questions and try to win the Mille Miglia GT XL Power Control and an unforgettable experience at the Chopard manufacture.

The Mille Miglia GT XL Power Control radiates a powerful character, including through a dial playing on contrasts to reveal its dynamic nature. The oversized “12” numeral is counterbalanced by the semi-circular power reserve display at 6 o’clock. Exactly like a petrol gauge, the percentage indicator features a red zone below 20%, designed to remind its wearer that the mechanism requires a new input of energy. At the heart of this ‘speed machine’ lies the largest mechanical movement on the market, chronometer-certified by the COSC.

You, me… and ChopardFor Valentine’s Day, Chopard is delighted to act as a messenger of love. Where some may give flowers or songs to express their feelings, Chopard sprinkles hearts all around. This symbol cherished by Chopard’s Co-President Caroline Gruosi-Scheufele, who has indeed made it the company emblem, takes on all manner of shapes to thrill lovers the world over.

To be sure not to miss the 12 strokes of midnight and to see their carriage turn back into a pumpkin, modern-day Cinderellas have found the indispensable accessory: a Happy Heart watch in a “tender pledges” version. The white rubber strap is marked with the symbol of love, while one of the three diamonds spinning around the dial is clasped in the gentle embrace of a white gold heart. A romantic yet subtle way of showing that one both loves and is loved…

It’s raining stars on the Happy Sport Loyal to its creative instincts, Chopard celebrates its 150th anniversary by revisiting one of its star watches, the famous Happy Sport.

For this special limited edition, the Geneva-based watchmaker opts for its favourite colour, blue, and creates an appealing blend of brilliance and opacity.

The Happy Sport 150th anniversary takes a resolutely nocturnal plunge with its moving diamonds dancing cheerfully in the moonlight. Decidedly monochrome, free of numerals or any details other than the Chopard logo on the ink blue aventurine-effect lacquered dial, this watch radiates a celestial charm and a powerful, incisive presence. The bezel may be all-steel or set with diamonds or sapphires. Five brilliant-cut diamonds evoking shooting stars whirl and twirl around the dial, lending a brilliant, festive air to this mystifying object of desire.

Fitted with a midnight-blue alligator leather or satin strap, the profoundly chic and mysterious Happy Sport makes an ideal match for all dress styles, whether embellishing jeans, lighting up a suit or enhancing an evening gown.

Red Carpet Catalogue 2010 It has now become a well-established ritual: each year since the 60th anniversary of the Cannes Film Festival, Caroline Gruosi-Scheufele rolls out a new High Jewellery collection directly inspired by movie stars. Adorning the world’s greatest actresses during the famous mounting of the steps ceremony, these daring and poetic creations lend a unique glow to the red carpet of the Palais des Festivals.

The major creation in the new Red Carpet collection is undoubtedly a necklace featuring sparkling water lilies. Aptly named Nymphéa, this titanium piece entirely set with diamonds, sapphires and tanzanites – 6,200 stones in all – sets the scene for an amazing dance of aquatic plants and jellyfish. The delicate match between gemstones and materials such as gold and titanium gives rise to a superbly subtle array of colours ranging from light purple through Prussian blue and faded blue to pristine white.

Contemporary homage to horological expertiseTo celebrate its one and a half centuries of existence, Chopard is presenting the L.U.C Calibre EHG developed for the Geneva Watchmaking School (Ecole d’Horlogerie de Genève - EHG).  With the L.U.C Calibre EHG, Chopard is affirming its support for training and for apprentice watchmakers. This is also a way for the Geneva house to perpetuate the watchmaking know-how and traditions as well as to hand the craftsmanship techniques down to the next generations.

Each student at the Geneva Watchmaking School will assemble this exceptional calibre during the final year of his course. Watchmaker’s students will keep the movement as a proof of their acquired skills. The calibre will be engraved with the name of the watchmaker student and the EHG. The “school piece” marks the culmination of these studies and represents a major landmark in any watchmaking career.

750 ebauches will be produced for the school and Chopard has guaranteed the supply of components for the next 30 years.

L.U.C Tourbillon Tech TwistThe first L.U.C Tourbillon movement with a silicon escapement

Chopard unveils a collector’s dream: the first L.U.C timepiece equipped with a silicon escapement. With its unusually oriented movement and its four barrels, this model inspires respect both for its technical qualities and for its original design.

The escape-wheel and the lever (a monobloc version with integrated guard-pin and pallet-stones) are made from silicon, thus enabling lubricant-free operation. This essential component in glass has become highly sought-after in the watchmaking world because it is three times lighter than steel and totally amagnetic.

Classic Racing SuperfastAn ultra-powerful engine

Over the last 20 years, Chopard has firmly established its credibility in the field of classic car racing. The full measure of sporting elegance and technical performances acquired throughout these two decades are now reflected in the Classic Racing Superfast. Its “motor”, a mechanical self-winding chronograph movement with a 42-hour power reserve and COSC chronometer certification, drives the hour and minute functions, along with small seconds at 3 o’clock and an instant-jump date display through a window at 6 o’clock. The hour-markers are reminiscent of the markings on classic car dashboard instruments, such as rev counters and speedometers.

In terms of bodywork, the imposing 47.80 mm rose gold case is fitted with the famous rubber strap featuring the 1960s Dunlop Racing tyre-read motif. The rectangular integrated pushers are in black rubber-moulded stainless steel, as is the screw-lock crown reminiscent of a tyre and adorned with a metal appliqué bearing the Classic Racing collection steering-wheel emblem. The lines engraved in the rose-gold sides of the case evoke the cooling fans found on the engine block of classic cars, and this motif is echoed on the dial.

The Classic Racing Superfast is issued in a limited and numbered series of 500.

Because an anniversary deserves to be celebrated each year in due style, Caroline Gruosi-Scheufele has decided to present yet another splendid gift to this legendary festival and its stars. For its 60th edition, she introduced 60 one-of-a-kind jewellery models; after the 61 pieces introduced in 2008, she took up the challenge again in 2009 by developing a new Haute Joaillerie collection comprised of 62 sublime creations. Pieces from this Red Carpet Collection includes stones of exceptional cut and quality such as diamonds, sapphires, rubies and emeralds. Also featured are unexpected gems and materials designed to suit the most varied of tastes.

Chopard and Mille Miglia race a lasting passionIn 1988, Chopard supported the famous Mille Miglia race for the first time, and presented in the same year the first Chopard Mille Miglia Chronograph.

This year, 375 vintage and classic cars - all constructed between 1927 and 1957 and of inestimable value - were admitted to take part in this not-to-be-missed event to challenge each other along an ancient and picturesque route, which is precisely a “Thousand Mile” long. From Brescia through Ferrara to Rome and through Siena and Florence back to the starting point, the historical wooden ramp in Viale Venezia, in the heart of Brescia. Enthusiastic locals and guests bid the drivers farewell at the start and welcomed them back at the end of the race. During the three-day race, thousands of spectators lined the streets of the original 1927 route and shouted out encouragement to the drivers.

As every year, Chopard - proud to be a long standing partner and “Official Timekeeper” of this legendary street race - offered to each competing pilot a complimentary gift, the exclusive Mille Miglia chronograph, 2009 limited competitor edition.

The race started in Brescia on Thursday. Among the famous faces to be seen were the Prince of Orange, Mika Hakkinen and famous Formula 1 racing car driver, David Coulthard. This year’s winner of the Mille Miglia - a competition of regularity - in the overall ranking is the team Carlo and Bruno Ferrari in a Bugatti Type 37 from 1927 who triumphed over their Argentine rivals— Carlos Sielecki and Juan Hervas in Bugatti Type 35 A from 1926—with only a two point lead. Coming in third were the winners of last year’s race, Antonio and Luciano Viaro, in an Alfa Romeo 6C 1500 Super Sport from 1928.

Chopard Opens the Cannes Film Festival with the Launch of CascadeChopard has chosen the Cannes Film Festival for the launch of its latest fragrance Cascade, inspired by the world of red carpets and stars.

On the evening of the Festival’s opening, a grand party has been thrown to celebrate this heady yet gentle potion in the magnificent setting of the Eden Roc hotel. Chopard’s Haute Joaillerie creations tour the red carpets of the world as adornments for the most famous celebrities. Cascade, the company’s latest fragrance was inspired by the glamour and elegance of these moments and exudes an oriental scent drawn from the “Belle de Nuit”. This delicate flower owes its name to one of its own specificities: when night falls, it opens, allowing its subtle perfume to permeate the air and then it closes again at the first light of dawn just like a mysterious star which disappears after a sublime and ephemeral appearance…

Mille Miglia GT XL Chrono Speed BlackA powerful contrast

The embodiment of sporting sophistication and aesthetic elegance: Chopard has successfully melded two sometimes paradoxical features to endow the Mille Miglia GT XL Chrono Speed Black with a unique strength of character. The association of rose gold and DLC blackened steel lends this model a distinctive dimension based on the power of contrasts.

Chronometer-certified by the COSC (Swiss Official Chronometer Testing Institute), its chronograph movement will appeal to connoisseurs of fine mechanical engineering – whether expressed in watches or cars. The split-level counters along with the oversized 6 and 12 o’clock numerals transferred beneath the sapphire crystal create an impressive overall sense of depth and relief. The tachometer scale engraved on the bezel and the streamlined pushers further reinforce the sporting appearance of this horological “speed machine”, reserved for a privileged group of just 500 individuals.

Haute Joaillerie Watch - Tell me your secret…What could be more precious than time?

Since history began man has attempted to capture time, searching not only to tell it but to define it as an entity. Chopard pays homage to this greatest of mysteries with the “montre secret ” – only the woman who wears it will know what lies behind… The first thing you notice is a diamond cuff, the fine setting appearing to blend with the gold like embroidery. Its appearance is that of a precious jewel and when seen in profile it recalls the shape of a knot. Inside however a treasure is hidden - by gently pressing on one of two push-buttons the secret lid lifts to reveal a watch with a diamond pavé dial. This Haute Joaillerie watch seduces by guarding from all its precious secret within, distracting the curious with a blaze of round brilliant and baguette diamonds. Only the wearer can whisper at any moment: tell me your secret…

Exclusive timepiece for ladiesThe L.U.C Tourbillon Lady watch is an example of Chopard’s highest expertise. It exists as a subtle blend of Haute Horlogerie and Haute Joaillerie. Baguette diamonds decorate the entire case and enhance a grand complication dial. It includes a tourbillon with the small seconds at 6 o’clock and an ample power reserve at 12 o’clock. A stylish yet simple letter C in polished gold is stamped on the Tourbillon bridge, both elegant and modern in appearance.

Under the setting lies a magnificent movement, not only in terms of its complexity but also in terms of its aesthetic beauty. With four stacked barrels, a Chopard exclusive, the L.U.C 4T calibre allows the watch an exceptional power reserve of 9 days. The movement, entirely hand-decorated, is COSC certified and carries the Poinçon de Genève seal.

José Carreras Writing Instruments CollectionA precious contribution

For many years the Scheufele family, owners of Chopard, have maintained their friendship with José Carreras. In 1996 the company launched limited edition watches dedicated to the famous tenor and today Chopard has created a set of prized pens in his name. A share of the sale profits of these products will go to the José Carreras International Leukaemia Foundation, an illness which the artist himself overcame about twenty years ago.

Elegant, valuable and as painstakingly decorated as fine 1900’s architecture, the José Carreras pens pay homage to the Catalan Palace of Music, a legendary Barcelona theatre in the Art Nouveau style. These limited edition models embody the rich creativity of this style, characteristic of the Belle Époque. Discreet yet sophisticated, the lady’s pen (of which there are 300 pieces) is decorated with a delicate gold lace over a vermillion background, reflecting passion and joy. The gentleman’s pen, a subtle variation in fine silver and black resin, conveys an imposing presence reflecting an andante partition. The master’s signature, engraved on the lid of the pen, provides extra character to these exceptional instruments available as fountain pens (200 pieces) and ballpoint pens (300 pieces).
