Trophée Chopard celebrates 10 glittering years

The Trophée Chopard, a prize for youthful talents, was awarded to Astrid Bergès-Frisbey and Niels Schneider on May 14, 2011 at the Cannes International Film Festival.

A partner of the Cannes International Film Festival since 1998, Chopard signalled its commitment to the septième art in 2001 by creating an award intended to honour the up-and-coming generation of the international movie world. At each edition of the Festival, the Chopard Trophy rewards the talent of two young actors. Many talented performers who have since achieved widespread recognition, such as Marion Cotillard, Jonathan Rhys-Meyers, Diane Kruger and Gael Garcia-Bernal, have thus been distinguished by Chopard. This year, the Geneva-based jeweller was particularly proud to be celebrating its award’s 10th anniversary in the company of Robert De Niro. The actor, who serves as President of the Jury of the 64th Cannes Film Festival, was also the patron of the 11th edition of the Trophée Chopard ceremony.

Awarded for the first time in 2001, the Trophée Chopard’s aim is to foster new talents by recognising them as Best Young Actor and Actress of the Year. Born from Caroline Gruosi-Scheufele’s passion for the world of cinema, this award, in partnership with Première magazine, is supported by the President of the Festival, Gilles Jacob.

As precious to receive as to admire, the Trophée Chopard is in itself a genuine architectural gem. The golden reel of film, finely crafted by Chopard’s master jewellers, was created by Caroline Gruosi-Scheufele, Co-President and Creative Director for Chopard. A long-time film enthusiast, she reflects upon her decision to support such an event: “The art of cinema has always been one of my passions. There is fabulous synergy between our two worlds: the creation of magnificent jewellery on one hand, and unforgettable films on the other”. It is certainly true that Chopard and the world of movies are engaged in an enduring love story worthy of the silver screen. Symbols of absolute glamour and expressions of dreams and emotions, jewellery, films and stars are all part of the same enchanting world, a sphere beyond the reach of time in which beauty, luxury and talent top the bill. Adulated for its original and refined creations that highlight feminine beauty, Chopard is well accustomed to red carpets the world over. Whether at the Oscars, Baftas or other glittering venues, the luxury company is a guest of honour at the world’s most prestigious movie events.

This year the laureates have been chosen by a jury of film professionals composed of actress Marisa Berenson, director Claude Lelouch, producer Takis Candilis, along with Mathieu Carratier, Chief Editor of Première magazine, and Caroline Gruosi-Scheufele.

This ceremony, one of the most prestigious of the Cannes Film Festival, once again attracted many of the great names in the movie industry. The event was all the more popular in that it marked an important anniversary, and the prize-giving was followed by an exclusive evening held at the Chopard Lounge.
