Trophée Chopard 2016
The winners of the 16th edition of the Trophée Chopard are Bel Powley and John Boyega
For the 16th edition of its prestigious Trophée, Chopard honours Bel Powley and John Boyega. The laureates were handed their awards by Juliette Binoche – prestigious patroness of the ceremony and winner of the 2010 Best Actress Prize in Cannes – on the Chopard Rooftop at the Martinez Hotel on May 12th 2016.
In 2001, under the impetus of Caroline Scheufele and eager to confirm its ongoing support of filmmaking, Chopard – which had been partnering the Cannes Film Festival since 1998 – created the Trophée Chopard intended to recognise the finest up-and-coming stars of world cinema. From Audrey Tautou to Léa Seydoux and from Marion Cotillard to Logan Lerman, Chopard has always shown a flair for detecting the most promising talents. For its 15th edition, the recipients of the Trophée awarded in partnership with Variety magazine, and with the support of the Festival President Pierre Lescure and its Director Thierry Frémaux, were chosen by a jury of professionals composed of actress Eva Longoria, American film producer Elizabeth Karlsen, Irish director Lenny Abrahamson, along with Chopard Co-President Caroline Scheufele and Steven Gaydos, Executive Editor of Variety. After extensive deliberations, the jury decided to reward Bel Powley, who caught the limelight in A Diary for a Teenage Girl and A Royal Night Out; and John Boyega, who shone in the most recent Star Wars episode: The Force Awakens. They had been handed their trophy by Juliette Binoche – illustrious patroness of the Chopard Trophy and an Oscar-winning actress who received the 2010 Best Actress Prize in Cannes and has garnered many other prestigious international accolades – on the Chopard Rooftop of the Martinez Hotel.
After the award ceremony, Caroline Scheufele held a grand evening in honour of the Chopard Trophy and its winners. Guests, including Julianne Moore, Kirsten Dunst, Mads Mikkelsen, Araya Hargate, Emilia Schüle, Valeria Bruni Tedeschi, Valeria Golino, Harvey Weinstein, Pierre Lescure, Chris Norton, Garance Doré, Nicole Warne and Kristina Bazan to name just a few, enjoyed the refined and elegant ambiance of a cocktail dinner on the Chopard Rooftop overlooking Cannes and the famous Croisette, to the sound of jazz played by New York trumpeter Chris Norton and his quartet. London-based DJ Amber Le Bon then played a set that added the perfect final touch to this exceptional soirée.
