Last March, during Baselworld, we were delighted to introduce the new Ice Cube Pure Collection with the campaign model and muse, Ms. Aymeline Valade. Who could better incarnate these minimalistic geometric designs, effortless jewellery for the coolest of them all?
French model turned actress, Aymeline Valade was discovered at the age of 15 skateboarding through the streets of Nice’s Old Town. After her studies in communication and journalism she went back to modeling, walking down the runway for the greatest designers of our times. We can’t wait to see her starring in the next Luc Besson feature film, “Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets”. Valade’s nonchalance contrasts beautifully with the sharp, clean, more rock than romance edginess of the Ice Cube Collection. Mid-way between urban chic and modern glamour, the cube inspires by its simplicity and pureness. Six facets, twelve ridges, eight peaks, in yellow, white or rose gold, polished or diamond-set, lined up in tightly pack rows. Rings, earrings, necklaces… not to mention bracelets for the hippest wrists – or ankles. These ultimate fashion accessories can be worn solo or stacked up with others. Brilliant sparkle, fresh appeal, multiple facets… Can’t live without them!
I like to think that it is a healthy one (smiles). I love experimenting with my own style and I think it is an interesting nonverbal communication tool.
I use jewellery for different purposes. The most important reason is to bring a touch of sophistication, as well as greater chic and feminity to whatever “look ” I am trying to create, but also to infuse my overall style with a glowing/radiant touch.
My first piece of jewellery was a medallion I was given when I was born.
To have a strong piece which sets the mood for the overall look, while keeping the rest “low-profile” so as not to overdo it. It’s all about accessorising with a subtle touch to bring that essential element of light... You would never leave the house without… My rings and earrings !
Its simplicity. It goes with any look, while being cool and chic at the same time.
The rings, because the more you stack them, the more you can play with the different combinations. Aside from anything else, it feels great to have a collection of them on your fingers…
Well, the great thing about this collection is that the very minimalism of its design ma kes it work with just about everything. So you can dress for the day or the evening and simply keep the same jewellery on throughout – or else adjust it by adding a piece or two for the evening.
I think it’s a great thing that we are becoming increasingly aware of our responsibilities with regard to the impact we have on Earth. We have the opportunity to change the bad habits we’ve developed, and see what we can do to improve things in future. Enabling a decent quality of life for those who work in the different sectors of the fashion industry would be a great step forward. We could a lso develop new means of product ion to reduce impact on the environment, and place greater emphasis on recycling systems for example. With its Journey to Sustainable Luxury, Chopard serves as a pioneer in the watch and jewellery industry, making a real impact on the supply chain with the ethical Fairmined gold they use in some of their collections, such as Ice Cube Pure. But at the end of the day, this is not simply about fashion but applies to all human kind. I do feel, however, that fashion has this great abilit y to be an active part of the change and to set a very positive example. Fashion probably has one of the most powerful communication networks, so if this industry becomes involved it will definitely have a significant influence on global production and consumption. I am aware that this may have a certain economic impact but this has to be weighed up against the more important issues – namely the very survival of life on earth – that are already at stake.
