Historical official partner of the Cannes International Film Festival and creator of the Palme d'Or since 1998, Chopard has designed a model inspired by the prestigious award. Made of ethical 'Fairmined' certified gold like the Palme d'Or itself and set with diamonds, the Happy Palm reflects the quintessence of glamour. Five dancing diamonds and a tiny gold palm whirl upon a finely worked mother-of-pearl dial. Perfectly reproducing the delicacy of a palm leaf, it is adorned with Urushi lacquer, a resin harvested in Asia from trees bearing the same name and then decorated according to an ancestral Japanese art called maki-e. Using infinitely accurate touches, the artisan drew and accentuated the motifs of the dial by sprinkling fine gold particles on the still wet lacquer. No less than 170 hours of work were required to create this dazzling plant-life motif. The back of the case reveals an equally spectacular work of art, the L.U.C 96.23-L movement.
