(A stream of cars passes by a massive building decorated with columns on the outside, and a tiny flag sporting an arrow and the name Mille Miglia hangs from a fence and flutters in the breeze.)
(Two men stand proudly next to their race car, then stroll through the building, with one boasting the words Chopard Classic Racing over the image of a steering wheel on his back. A green race car in action shows off this same logo.)

Initially contestants made for Lake Garda, passing through the waterside towns of Salo and Sirmione along the way before proceeding to Mantua and on to the first overnight stop in Cervia-Milano Marittima – a total run of more than 300 km that, for the drivers of older cars, meant at least six hours on the road.
Day Two on Thursday 16 June, saw the convoy head for Rome on a more arduous, 500-km drive that took them via the remarkable mountain top republic of Norcia before bringing them into the
Eternal City well after dark, prior to Friday morning’s rude pre-dawn awakening.
Saturday’s fourth and final leg followed a route of little more than 150 km punctuated by a stop at the Monza race circuit in order to complete a tricky, timed auto-test – for which the teams certainly needed their Mille Miglia Race Edition chronographs - and the magnificently beautiful city of Bergamo. After this it was (literally) downhill all the way to the finish line in Brescia – where the first of more than 400 different 1000 Miglia adventures was told…
This year again, Chopard Co-President Karl-Friedrich Scheufele demonstrated his passion for driving classic cars by taking his place on the starting line.
With him in a strawberry-red Mercedes-Benz 300SL 'Gullwing' was motorsport legend Jacky Ickx, Karl-Friedrich Scheufele’s co-driver on more than 16 occasions. From their first race in 1989 in that same 1955 Gullwing, to 2021,
the friendship between these like-minded gentlemen drivers has kept growing, reflecting the spirit and camaraderie that this race is renowned for. The two friends led a team of five Chopard cars that included an Ermini Sport 1100 (1954) driven by Milan-based fashion guru Alessandro Squarzi, a Porsche 356 (1957) with Chopard Ambassador Romain Dumas at the wheel, a beautiful 1956 Alfa Romeo 1900 Super Sport and a Fiat 1100 with rare Zagato bodywork.
(A man, Jackie Ickx, stands at a window surrounded by green ivy that has overtaken the exterior facade, leaning out over the railing with his arms crossed.)
[Jackie Ickx] We're fighting against the clock nonstop.
[music plays]
(Jackie speaks and admires his watch while sitting on a beige armchair against a brown and white checked wall.)
[Jackie Ickx] My only regret is that the chronograph is so precise it never goes too fast.
(Jackie sits behind the wheel of a bright red car with no roof.)
(The red car passes over a bridge, through old stone walls built atop it, over bright blue waters with green fields and houses off in the distance.)
(Suddenly, the red car is passing over bright red carpet surrounded by photographers with a bright red sign sporting the phrase Villaggio Mille Miglia overhead, followed by other cars passing by throngs of spectators.)
(Jackie continues speaking, sitting in the beige armchair.)
[Jackie Ickx] Behind these watches, there are people who design them, prepare them, mount them, and they make a precise machine.
(A man sits in front of a screen displaying times.)
[Jackie Ickx] In motor racing, I think it's the same.
(Cars pass through narrow cobblestone streets surrounded by buildings.)
[Jackie Ickx] You have these people you never see.
(Jackie continues speaking from his beige armchair.)
[Jackie Ickx] They produce the winning car or the winning watch.
(Two men, Jackie Ickx and Karl-Friedrich Scheufele, pose next to a purple race car with gull-wing doors and a red and white race car with no roof.)
[Jackie Ickx] The success is the recognition of those who are behind the curtain.
(Cars pass through a narrow street surrounded by old stone walls with lush greenery on either side, briefly interrupted by an Italian flag fluttering high above some statues against a bright sun.)
(Then, against a verdant countryside, cars twist their way through winding roads as the sun peeks over the horizon.)
