Insofu Collection

After the Garden of Kalahari Collection, born from a 342-carat rough diamond discovered in 2017, Chopard revealed a 6,225-carat rough emerald, which was mined using responsible mining practices, in 2022. From cutting the rough emerald right down to the jewellery production process, Chopard has ensured the total traceability of the stone throughout its incredible journey.

A treasure from Mother Nature

Chopard has therefore brought together the best Indian stonecutters in Geneva to study the stone in detail and cut it in a way that each facet preserves the soul and inherent beauty of Insofu. This time-consuming and highly complex undertaking lasted almost a year, as emeralds are such fragile beauties that they require a great deal of expertise.

"Each stone tells us its story, and my role is to honor the natural magic of these earthly treasures"

Caroline Scheufele

Insofu means ‘elephant’

In the Bemba language, spoken in the Kagem mining region of Zambia where the stone was extracted, Insofu means 'elephant'. When it was discovered, the majesty and gigantic size of this exceptionally high quality emerald prompted the artisanal miners to give it this name. It's therefore only natural that the High Jewellery collection that resulted from this discovery includes a magnificent elephant pendant, whose upward-pointing trunk is a symbol of prosperity and good luck.

"This final chapter of the Insofu Collection is a moment I have been waiting for for a long time, a moment that could only happen in partnership with a noble cause that favors the protection of wildlife and nature"

Caroline Scheufele

A collaboration with meaning

Chopard has chosen to combine the unveiling of its Insofu Collection with impactful actions dedicated to the animal kingdom. This is why part of the profits from each piece in the Collection will be donated to Elephant Family, whose actions focus on reducing conflict between mankind and elephants, protecting migration corridors and community engagement to promote a culture of coexistence.
