The 1000 Miglia, like never before

Tradition with a Twist

To commemorate a year like no other, the 39th edition of “la corsa più bella del mondo” will merge tradition and innovation. For the occasion, Chopard has crafted two new watches, modern classics to cross the finish line, and into the future.

The theme for this year, “Crossing the Future”, speaks to a race that is propelling itself forward. Between 16 and 19 June, vintage and electric cars for the first time be led through a familiar route from a new perspective, running counterclockwise, west to east, across the 200 Italian towns and villages on the itinerary. A future-facing take on this historic race that is marked with watches fuelled with its extraordinary spirit.

Gentlemen Drivers and la Dolce Vita

On 16 June 16, 375 race aficionados will gather in the town of Brescia, from where the race has started every year since 1927. This journey across northern and central Italy brings together the world’s finest gentlemen drivers and the most extraordinary cars. A chance to experience a taste of the Italian art of driving across 1,000 miles. Along with their co-pilot, a friend or family member, competitors can count on their finest driving companion, the Mille Miglia GTS timepieces.

Talismans for Modern Drivers

For 2021, Chopard has crafted two new versions of the iconic sports watch, the Mille Miglia GTS. Inspired by classic designs and the vintage spirit of the cars produced between 1941 and 1957, these merge precision, comfort and elegance, while both chronometers are certified by the COSC.

The first watch is a 1,000 limited-edition steel timepiece, a day to night sports watch with an elegant look. This 44 mm chronograph has a calfskin bracelet with a rubber lining and red detailing that is reminiscent of racing gloves.

The second watch combines rose gold and steel. Limited to 250 editions, it has short lugs that ensure a perfect fit on the wrist and a calfskin leather bracelet inspired by 1960s Dunlop racing tyres motif.

"The love of driving Classic Cars is definitely in our blood"

- Karl-Friedrich Scheufele

Chopard and Mille Miglia, A Family Affair

Chopard has had a strong connection to the 1000 Miglia ever since 1988, releasing new watches for every race. These timepieces combine elegance and innovation, building a bridge between automotive engineering and mechanical watchmaking. This passion for vintage cars has been passed down from generation to generation, becoming a Chopard family affair. Chopard Co-President, Karl-Friedrich Scheufele, has raced more than 30 times, joined by friends and family members as his co-drivers, from his wife, Christine, his father, Karl, his close friend and Le Mans winner Jacky Ickx, to his daughter, Caroline Marie, a car aficionada herself who took her spot in the co-pilot seat for the first time in 2019.
