Bringing Joie de Vivre to London, Chopard has created its first-ever Happy Sport pop-up in the UK in the famous Harrods department store in Knightsbridge.
Offering an immersive experience, Chopard will present a selection of its latest sporty-chic timepieces – some of which are exclusive to Harrods – with their joyful dancing diamonds.
Located in the very heart of London, the Happy Sport exhibition will be on show at Harrods from July 4th to 30th. This bright pink room welcomes customers, inviting them to discover exclusive timepieces – and in particular, a Happy Sport Chrono inspired by the exhibition and featuring over 1,000 pink diamonds – as well as jewellery pieces from the Happy Diamonds collection as well as to enjoy a Chopard café while playing a “happy game” online.
On this occasion, Chopard is delighted to present the Happy Sport Sapphire: three exclusive timepieces equipped with an in-house automatic movement with diamond-set micro-rotor visible through a transparent sapphire case. Vying with the hardness and scratch-resistance of diamonds, sapphire is an extremely dense material whose brittleness makes it hard to work with. Combining the most sophisticated techniques and crafts, Chopard has successfully produced this distinctive bulk-dyed case in which the transparency is created by the purity of aluminium oxide crystals with a chromium element added to obtain the pink iteration and an iron element to achieve the blue. Matching the shade of the case, which is water-resistant to 30 metres thanks to two transparent silicon gaskets, the dials are in coloured, engraved and lacquered mother-of-pearl.
Composed of aluminium oxide crystals ensuring pure raw material with optimum optical properties, the Happy Sport Sapphire cases are produced using the Kyropoulos method. The sapphire crystal is then machined using a diamond grinding wheel. This work is particularly delicate due to the brittle nature of the material.
Almost 150 machining hours, including grinding and polishing, are required to create an impeccable transparent Happy Sport sapphire case. This model comes in three different colourways, namely a white, blue or pink sapphire case and white or rose gold bezels with triangle-cut diamonds using invisible setting, white or rose gold crown and cabochons set with diamonds, along with engraved and lacquered white, blue or pink mother-of-pearl dial with seven dancing diamonds. The Happy Sport Sapphire is powered by a Chopard 96.17-C movement with 65-hour power reserve featuring Chopard Twin Technology (two stacked barrels) and diamond-set micro-rotor, with a matt white, blue or fuchsia alligator strap.
At the pop up, customers will also have an opportunity to customise their Happy Sport timepiece with a selection of dancing charms available to this Harrods exclusive. Taking approximately two weeks to incorporate these happy charms to a timepiece, this modification and personalisation is a classic example of the technical precision of the highly skilled craftmanship that takes place within Chopard’s ateliers. The charms are available in different shapes, including a lucky clover, a star, a heart, a moon, a star, butterfly, a fish, letters and many more…
The Happy Sport Pop up is open from July 4th to 30th, on the Ground Floor of Harrods, London.
