Design

Iconic Design

All curves and soft lines, Happy Sport is a feminine masterpiece of watchmaking art, offering an opulent stage for its emblematic dancing diamonds, imagined as an echo of the surge of freedom that changed the lives of women in the 20th century. The first watch to combine the nobility of diamonds with the robustness of steel, Happy Sport diamond watch features a unique design, making it an icon at the crossroads between a watch and a piece of jewellery.

Dancing diamonds

Invented by the Maison in 1976, the dancing diamonds spin freely on the watch dial thanks to the talent of the Artisan Choreographers who oversee their movement. The first watch to combine the nobility of diamonds with the robustness of steel, Happy Sport diamond watch features a unique design, making it an icon at the crossroads between a watch and a piece of jewellery.

“Little diamonds do great things.”

Identity

Tale of an Icon

In the 1990s, Caroline Scheufele invited Chopard's Happy Diamonds to dance above a watch dial – and not around it as before. "Impossible!" objected her workshop manager, betting her a rose for every watch sold.

Bold and intuitive, in 1993 she presented a steel and diamond watch on a supple, comfortable 'pebble' link bracelet, set with cabochon-cut sapphires on the lugs and crown, and featuring a dial enlivened by seven dancing diamonds.

Acclaimed by the press, demanded by Women, the Happy Sport Swiss watch became a new fashion icon, bringing sporty-chic spirit to life! The workshop manager finally offered Caroline Scheufele a rosebush, which has bloomed ever since as a reminder that this watch once predicted to fail in fact consistently entrances every generation.

(On-screen text: Why did you create the Happy Sport watch?)

When I invented the Happy Sport, it was mostly because I was doing a lot of sports. That's why the name Sport is there. At Chopard we had the St. Moritz, which was a cool sporty watch. But for me, there was this sort of... sparkle missing, I really wanted something with a bit of sparkle that you could wear for 24 hours, meaning you can go swimming, waterskiing, play tennis, go shopping, take the kids to school, go to the office. And if you have no time, you're dressed because you have little diamonds running around in the cocktail. So, that, for me, was the free spirit, because today's women are always busy doing something, whether it's taking care of six kids or charitable work, whether it’s travelling or working. And this watch is just perfect for it.

Movement

In-house movement

Chopard’s watchmaking expertise and vertically integrated approach enable most of the Happy Sport models to be driven by a 148-part Chopard 09.01-C movement – with automatic winding and a 42-hour power reserve – that is entirely designed, developed and produced in-house. Since Chopard’s creations are as beautiful inside, as they are outside, the calibre is visible through the sapphire case-back of the watch.

Creativity

Boundless Creativity

Like all icons, Happy Sport has never ceased to be one of the watches most collected by Women since its creation.

Its alternately round, oval or square case has welcomed an infinite variety of mobiles and dials, notably including Happy Snowflakes, Happy Fish and Happy Hearts to name but a few.

SUSTAINABILITY

Responsible sourcing

When it comes to the origins of our creations, we aim to be as transparent as possible and to ensure that our high-quality materials are responsibly sourced.

Recycled steel

The collection proudly epitomises Chopard's strategic choices in building Sustainable Luxury. Steel watches are thus equipped with cases and bracelets made of Lucent Steel™, a responsible alloy exclusive to the Maison and composed of at least 80% recycled material.

Ethical Gold

As an expression of its commitment to responsible luxury, Chopard has used responsibly sourced gold in the creation of its watches and jewellery since 2018. In line with this ethos, the gold models are crafted in Ethical Gold.
