CANNES FILM FESTIVAL

Since 1998, Chopard has formed a glittering duo with the Cannes Film Festival, to which it serves as official partner.

Synonymous with glamour

The Maison loves Cinema: artisan of the Palme d'Or and all the prizes awarded at the end of the competition, we are also keen to promote the up-and-coming generation of the film industry by yearly presenting the Trophée Chopard to a young actor and actress. Synonymous with glamour, Chopard accompanies the traditional ascent of the steps by adorning the stars with stunning Haute Joaillerie creations from the Red Carpet Collection. « 3, 2, 1, Action ! »

From star-crossed lovers to triumphant tales, love stories make their way into our hearts, and open us up to a myriad of dreams.

At the Maison Chopard, the 90s began with a new creative spark, coming from the heart and soul of Caroline Scheufele.

(A shooting star streaks across a starry night sky into a French Riviera backdrop featuring palm trees, seagulls and the sun sparkling on the sea.)

Guided by the stars above, Caroline's path was destined to bring her to the French Riviera:

The inauguration of a Chopard boutique on the Croisette, a chance encounter!

(The Chopard boutique on the Croisette appears, then a ribbon adorned with the words "CHOPARD CANNES" is cut open with a golden pair of scissors, and falls to reveal a smiling Caroline Scheufele.)

The prestigious Swiss Maison meets the most respected festival in cinema: the International Cannes Film Festival.

(A golden C from the Chopard logo swirls into the golden palm leaf of Cannes Film Festival.)

Opening the doors to a world of marvels, and the start of a beautiful love story.

(Caroline Scheufele appears on the red carpet, smiling and posing in front of the cameras, with jewelry gracefully adorning her neck and wrist. Sepia footage follows of the Cannes Film Festival, the red carpet, the stairs, palm trees and the sea.)

From the very beginning, the relationship is built on trust.

(A handshake between a hand wearing an elegant jewel-encrusted bracelet and a hand with a gold palm leaf cufflink.)

And Caroline is given an extraordinary task: to re-design one of the most coveted trophies in the world of Cinema: the Palme d'Or.

(Caroline sketches a design for the Palme d'Or trophy. The trophy appears in the hands of acclaimed actors in a series of sepia images.)

She turned the Festival's emblem into a spectacular jewel.

[sparkling sound]

(Caroline poses, smiling, next to a giant, sparkling Palme d'Or trophy. A black and white film reel flits across the screen featuring different versions of the trophy and photos of the winners.)

Year after year, Caroline outdoes herself. Fervent supporter of the seventh art, she conceives the Trophée Chopard to reward young, promising talents, gifted actors and actresses who give life to unforgettable films. Influenced by her favorite movies, every jewel Caroline creates whispers its own story.

(Black and white photos of actors with jewelry highlighted in color.)

Actresses are the muses who inspire her creations. To honor their talents, their ability to make us journey across worlds and cultures, Caroline designs a unique collection for them to shine brighter than ever before: 60 glowing pieces, named after the iconic Red Carpet, celebrating the Festival's 60th anniversary.

(The number 60 appears in golden script, with an actor holding the Palme d'Or inside the 0.)

(Cameras flash as actors pose on the red carpet.)

And every year, like a fairy godmother, Caroline adds a piece to the Red Carpet collection, to equal the number of candles blown by the Festival.

(Against a backdrop featuring the Cannes seaside, a hand holds up an elegant piece of jewelry that changes to show each year's version. The years flit by against a black background with the words "FESTIVAL INTERNATIONAL DU FILM CANNES" in gold.)

As the partnership grows, the Maison embarks on a sustainable journey, and from the Red Carpet is born the Green Carpet collection.

(A large red jewel surrounded by a ring of smaller drop-shaped jewels is replaced by a sparkling silver spiral surrounded by green leaf-shaped jewels.)

To give life to such a world of beauty, it takes a team of dedicated, passionate, and highly skilled artisans, the same excellence that is needed to create cinematic masterpieces.

(Film snippets of the artisans at work in their workshops flash by, then a flash of white light dims to reveal the lens of an old-fashioned 60s-style film camera.)

Every year during the famous "quinzaine", the Maison ignites the Cannes Film Festival, creating a haven, a place to relax under the shadow of palm trees, a place to enjoy moments of glory.

(The sun sparkles on the sea, palm trees are silhouetted against the sky; a woman in a white dress poses on the seafront.)

The Sun of the Côte d'Azur witnesses wonderful creatures, the rituals of preparing for the marvels of the evening.

(Close-up of a woman putting on a precious earring. Close-up of a wrist adorned with a L.U. Chopard timepiece.)

And adding the ultimate touch to perfect gentlemen, Chopard grooms legendary couples of Cinema, to walk up the famous Montée des Marches.

(A woman in an intricate gown walks up the stairs and disappears in a flash of light at the top.)

When night falls, Chopard whisks the stars to unforgettable soirées, bringing together a hive of talented artists.

(Fireworks burst against a night sky in Cannes. Footage of concerts, parties and firework displays.)

An invitation to celebrate beauty, love, and cinema. United by their dedication to the 7th Art, the love story between Chopard and the Cannes Film Festival carries the promise of a bright future.

Julia Roberts, Charlize Theron, Cate Blanchett, Julianne Moore, Sharon Stone, Gwyneth Paltrow, Hilary Swank, Marion Cotillard, Léa Seydoux, Penélope Cruz, Scarlett Johansson, Lupita Nyong’o, Freida Pinto, Fan Bing Bing, Zhang Ziyi, Isabelle Huppert, to mention but a few, have all dazzled on the red carpet wearing Haute Joaillerie treasures crafted by our workshops.

THE AWARD

PALME D'OR

Coveted by every director, the Palme d’Or each year honours the best film at the Cannes Film Festival. Redesigned in 1998 by Caroline Scheufele, it is exclusively crafted in the Maison's workshops, together with all the trophies awarded during the festival’s closing ceremony. Since 2014, it is also the only film trophy made from Fairmined-certified ethical gold.

REDESIGNED BY CAROLINE SCHEUFELE

It all began in 1997 when Caroline Scheufele met Pierre Viot, then director of the Cannes International Film Festival. While she was attentively examining the Palme d’Or displayed in Pierre Viot’s office, he invited her to redesign a fresh interpretation of the legendary trophy. For this devoted film-lover, it was a new challenge that she took up with great enthusiasm, committing her boundless inspiration and creativity to one of the film industry’s most highly desired awards. The following year, at the closing ceremony of the 1998 Cannes Festival, the new Palme d’Or was unveiled to the world in the form in which it still exists today.

TOMORROW’S TALENT

TROPHÉE CHOPARD

Created in 2001, each year the Trophée Chopard shines a light on the up-and-coming generation of the international film industry by rewarding a promising young actor and actress. From Marion Cotillard and Jessie Buckley to Niels Schneider and Jack Lowden, along with Léa Seydoux and John Boyega, Trophée Chopard laureates have repeatedly forged illustrious careers affirming their exceptional promise.

SUPPORTING CREATIVE FILMMAKING

PASSING ON THE SPOTLIGHT

The trophy – a silver-coated gold film reel on a glass base – was designed by Caroline Scheufele herself. Like the Palme d’Or and indeed all the trophies awarded during the closing ceremony of the Cannes Festival, it is crafted by Chopard’s High Jewellery artisans. The actors are selected by a distinguished committee composed of Caroline Scheufele, along with former godfathers, godmothers and laureates of previous editions who are always happy to pass on the spotlight from which they have themselves benefited.

A CELEBRATION OF THE ARTS

RED CARPET COLLECTION

As Chopard’s creative soul, artistic director Caroline Scheufele has chosen 'Art' as the theme of the Maison's anticipated Red Carpet Collection. Architecture, sculpture, painting, music, literature, dance and cinema: all the noblest forms of human genius will be highlighted in 76 new Haute Joaillerie creations.
