Obras maestras de la joyería

Cuando nos acercamos a la mesa de trabajo de Laura situada en nuestros talleres de Alta Joyería, nos parece que estamos descubriendo la cueva de Alí Babá de todos los objetos brillantes de colores que allí se acumulan. Pero no nos equivoquemos, ¡las obras maestras de joyería de lujo que se encuentran ahí en tan enorme cantidad tienen tanto valor como las copias que se crean para el vestuario de una ópera! Artesana joyera maquetista de joyas de lujo en nuestros talleres desde 2018, Laura fabrica estas maquetas con estaño y cristales, maquetas que van a guiar el trabajo de los demás Artesanos para fabricar el modelo original con piedras y metales preciosos.

I've always drawn, I used to paint with my Mum. I'd show her my paintings and ask: What do you think? And it was in her studio that I was inspired to draw like her.

We often say that jewellers have "hands of gold".

You could say I have "hands of tin".


(In her workshop, Laura polishes the metal cutout of the bird's wings. She welds two pieces of metal together, selecting different tools to sculpt the material and shape seats for the stones to come.)


I'm a jeweller model maker at Chopard. It was quite natural for me to use tools, I wasn't nervous because at my grandfather's house, I played with nails, little boats. To be a good model maker, you have to listen. You have to have an artistic temperament and sensibility.


(Laura places the necklace onto a mannequin bust and begins to set the stones in place.)


It's something I feel compelled to do to express my artistic flair.

I think that through lots of observation, the eye educates itself and lets you know what is beautiful and what isn't beautiful. I never think I'll get it right first time. So it gives me a small thrill to think: How am I going to do this?

Because it isn't by looking once, but a hundred times, that you find that little spark that will change the volume, that will tell you if it's something you really like, that tells you the piece is coming to life and has a new kind of strength.

We're always inspired by nature in jewellery making.

If the gouache design depicts a rose, I will draw inspiration from books with roses inside or photos that I've taken, and I thus try to find what might go together.

I feel really lucky to be able to do this work because I think it's unique and because, at Chopard, I have the chance to add my own personal touch.

I've always liked the Maison for its colourful and feminine side.

We don't know why exactly, but we're a bit magical, all of us, and we often forget that.

Laura, artesana joyera maquetista

Formada en dibujo desde su más tierna infancia, nuestra artesana joyera maquetista de joyas de lujo es una intérprete de la belleza. Su misión: dar forma a las joyas trazadas en los croquis de los dibujantes, para crear la primera representación en tres dimensiones. Para Laura no hay ni oro ni diamantes. Ella trabaja en estaño, un material muy maleable en el que puede trabajar más rápidamente según sus ideas y de acuerdo con la interpretación que ella hace de la pieza. Al contrario de lo que sucede con el Artesano joyero escultor en cera, ella tiene la posibilidad de completar su maqueta con cristales blancos o tintados que simulan las piedras preciosas y representan el brillo y los colores que vestirán a la auténtica joya de lujo. Es un trabajo que resulta de enorme ayuda para los que van a tener que seleccionar las piedras del modelo original según su talla y su color. 

El modelo

La maqueta va a servir al jefe del taller, a los lapidarios, a los joyeros y a los engastadores para conocer las formas y las particularidades de la joya de lujo durante su fabricación. Gracias a este importante trabajo de preparación, el conjunto del taller gana en visión y en tiempo: siguen el patrón en tres dimensiones que el saber hacer de Laura ha permitido preparar con la mayor precisión.
